Bushings today are omnipresent in high voltage (HV) substation transformers, CTs and switchgear. They account for a large proportion of HV substation failures and half of the incidents are catastrophic with severe and dangerous consequences. Preventive maintenance, early replacement and regular off-line testing have been employed to address this issue in the past. Now, technology exists that enables asset owners to detect impending failures and reduce their maintenance costs.
GE’s Intellix BMT 330 is an on-line system that continuously monitors not only the condition of the bushings (capacitance and power factor), but also the presence of partial discharge (PD) activity in the transformer main tank. It will alert personnel of fault conditions at an early stage and provide vital health information on the bushings and the transformer.
The Intellix BMT 330 can be utilized as a stand-alone device, or it can be used in conjunction with GE’s Kelman TRANSFIX™ family of dissolved gas analysis (DGA) multi-gas analyzers. The combination of the Intellix BMT 330 and the TRANSFIX offers customers an integrated, one-source solution that provides a more in-depth view of the transformer’s condition and monitors the root causes of most transformer failures.

Knowledge of the condition of transformers is essential for all electrical networks and on-line monitoring of transformers is an increasingly vital component of successful asset management program. The information provided by multi-gas on-line DGA allows valuable asset capabilities to be maximised and expensive failures to be avoided.
Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and moisture measurement of the insulation oil are recognised as the most important tests for condition assessment of transformers. Traditionally performed in a laboratory environment, the MULTITRANS uniquely provides the capability to perform full on-line multi-gas DGA and moisture monitoring of up to three main tank oil sources in a single phase bank of transformers.
The MULTITRANS is designed for large transformers with three single phase tanks. Utilising photo-acoustic spectroscopy (PAS) measurement technology well suited to field application, providing laboratory challenging levels of precision and repeatability. Full 9 gas DGA sampling can be performed as often as every hour on a single tank and up to once every three hours on a three tank configuration. This includes monitoring of the 7 key gases (Hydrogen (H2), Carbon monoxide (CO), Methane (CH4), Acetylene (C2H2), Ethylene (C2H4), Ethane (C2H6), Carbon dioxide (CO2)) employed in all common diagnostic methods and MULTITRANS offers full gas in oil trending, analysis and diagnostic capabilities through its close integration with GE’s powerful Perception software suite and/or users own software, historian and SCADA systems. MULTITRANS is best suited for monitoring large, system critical or compromised single phase multiple tank transformers with a view to extending asset life, preventing.

Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) and moisture measurement of the insulation oil are recognised as the most important tests for condition assessment of transformers. Traditionally performed in a laboratory environment, TAPTRANS uniquely provides the capability as a single device to perform full on-line multi-gas DGA and moisture monitoring of a transformer main tank and on-load tap changer (OLTC), including both the selector and diverter tanks.
The TAPTRANS is designed for transformers with on-load tap changers (OLTC), which are recognised as being one of the most vulnerable parts of a transformer and which account for a large portion of unplanned outages and catastrophic failures. Full 9 gas DGA sampling can be performed as often as every hour on a single tank and up to once every three hours if all three possible oil tanks are connected. This includes monitoring of the 7 key gases gases (Hydrogen (H2), Carbon monoxide (CO), Methane (CH4), Acetylene (C2H2), Ethylene (C2H4), Ethane (C2H6), Carbon dioxide (CO2)) employed in all common diagnostic methods and TAPTRANS offers full gas in oil trending, analysis and diagnostic capabilities through its close integration with GE’s powerful Perception software suite and/or users own software, historian and SCADA systems. Therefore TAPTRANS uniquely provides asset managers with powerful insight into not only main transformer tank condition but also key OLTC parameters such as moisture level, current conductive system condition, mechanism timing characteristics, contact wear and insulation condition. The TAPTRANS is suitable for monitoring any oil filled transformer which has an OLTC, whether in-tank or on-tank, oil or vacuum tap, with a view to extending asset life, preventing unexpected failure and operating on a condition based / predictive maintenance schedule.
Taptrans unit requires no calibration or carrier gases.

Transformers are key and expensive components of the electrical grid and knowledge of their health condition is essential to having a reliable network. When a transformer’s insulation system is overstressed, gases are produced that dissolve in the oil. Dissolved Gas-in-oil Analysis (DGA) is recognized as the best indicator of developing faults.
The Hydran 201Ti is a small and easy to setup continuous DGA monitor. It provides the basic information used by IEEE® Standard C57.104 and can be used as an essential first line of defence for the transformers in your fleet to obtain advance warning of a failure condition and minimize the risk of unplanned outages. The Hydran 201Ti’s composite-gas sensor provides the world renown “Hydran gas value” using fuel cell technology (described as fixed instruments – method 3 in the standard). It responds 100% to Hydrogen(H2) (general fault gas) and is also sensitive to Carbon Monoxide(CO) (overheated paper), Acetylene(C2H2) (arcing) and Ethylene(C2H4) (overheated oil), thus covering all the main transformer failure root causes.
